Reported by Sandra Ainebyona

The Ugandan Minister in charge of Karamoja Affairs Hon. Kitutu Mary Goretti Kimono is to be arraigned in court today 06th March on corruption charges.

A statement released by the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions indicated that the office had sanctioned charges of corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony against Hon. Kitutu Mary Goretti Kimono for diverting iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

The Office further revealed that the Director of Public Prosecutions Hon. Justice Jane Frances Abodo had consented to the charges and the Police has been directed to produce the Minister in court for a plea.

The charges arise from the ongoing iron sheets scandal that saw relief items meant for Karamoja Sub-region distributed to senior government officials. The government procured the iron sheets for distribution to vulnerable Karimojong in a move to make the community more productive and renounce violence.
