KAMPALA,Uganda – In a gesture of solidarity and recognition of the legal community’s vital role in Uganda, Chief Justice Owiny Dollo has granted official permission for courts throughout the country to adjourn all matters involving advocates on September 29, 2023. This decision will allow lawyers to participate in the Uganda Law Society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The move follows a request by the President of the Law Society, Bernard Oundo, who sought the Chief Justice’s support in facilitating the legal community’s participation in this significant event.
The Uganda Law Society (ULS), the premier National Bar Association in Uganda, is gearing up for its Pre-Annual General Meeting on September 29, 2023, and the Annual General Meeting on September 30, 2023, which will be held at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.
The Annual General Meeting serves as a prominent platform for the ULS to showcase the activities undertaken throughout the year, aligning with its statutory objectives. During this gathering, the ULS will present its Annual Performance Report to its members.
Distinguished guests, including the Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, are expected to grace the event with their presence. The Lord Mayor will share insights into how he has successfully balanced his political career with managing one of the premier law firms in the city, providing valuable perspective and inspiration to the legal community.
The decision to adjourn cases in support of the Law Society’s AGM underscores the unity and cooperation that exists within the legal fraternity of Uganda. It highlights the commitment of the judiciary to recognize the importance of the legal profession and contribute to the success of the ULS event.
