KISORO, February 19, 2024 | The territorial Police in Kisoro have made significant progress in the investigation of a tragic incident that shocked the community. Three individuals have been apprehended in connection to the murder of a 54-year-old teacher in Kisoro district.
The suspects, identified as Gerald Bagenyi (35 years old), Thomas Arinaitwe (40 years old), and Monday Ezrah (38 years old), all residents of Birara Village, Kagunga Parish, Bukimbiri Subcounty, Kisoro District, are allegedly involved in the murder of Sunday Calist, a respected teacher and resident of Kagunga Parish.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded in the early hours of February 17, 2024, around 3:00 AM. The suspects approached the home of the deceased, who was peacefully sleeping beside his wife. Pretending that a fellow resident, Allen Nyirabyiringiro, was seriously ill and needed urgent medical attention, they called the teacher out, claiming they needed assistance to transport the patient to the hospital.
Unsettled by the circumstances, the wife of the deceased decided to follow them discreetly, only to stumble upon a heartbreaking scene. Instead of finding her husband aiding a sick neighbor, she discovered his lifeless body lying in front of Agaba Ezrah’s house, a mere 100 meters away from their home.
“The wife of the deceased was uncomfortable with the way her husband was invited and taken away, and she decided to follow them up to the home of Agaba Ezrah,” stated police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate. “Instead, she found the dead body of her husband lying in front of the house.”
Upon receiving the distressing news, law enforcement swiftly responded, visiting the scene and conducting thorough investigations. A postmortem examination was performed at the site of the crime, and the body of the deceased was subsequently handed over to his grieving relatives for a dignified farewell.
ASP Elly Maate confirmed that the three suspects are currently in police custody, as the investigation continues to unfold.
