KAMPALA, April 04, 2024 | A troubling case has emerged from the corridors of education, as a parent takes legal action against Genesis Nursery and Primary School in Kampala, accusing the institution of orchestrating a distressing ordeal for his daughter.
Isabella Ndabateze, the child in question, has filed a lawsuit against Genesis Nursery and Primary School, alleging that she was transported without her parent’s consent to Kasagga Primary School in Nakaseke to sit for her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The incident has sparked a wave of concern over document falsification, negligence, and fraudulent misrepresentation.
According to court documents filed at the Civil Division of the High Court on April 2, 2024, Isabella’s father, Robert Ndabateze, expressed shock upon receiving his daughter’s PLE results from a different school. The certificate indicated that Isabella had supposedly attended Kasagga Primary School in Nakaseke, contrary to her enrollment at Genesis Nursery and Primary School.
Mr. Ndabateze, visibly distressed by the situation, recounted, “Shockingly, when the results came out, her Primary Leaving Examinations certificate bore a different name of a school, Kassaga Primary School P.O. Box 104, Nakaseke located in Nakaseke district.”
The lawsuit, brought forward by Isabella through Bluebell Legal Advocates, alleges a range of grievances, including humiliation, discrimination, torment, anxiety, low self-esteem, and emotional distress inflicted upon the child. The petition asserts that Isabella’s UNEB registration forms and other school documents clearly indicate her affiliation with Genesis Nursery and Primary School.
Genesis Nursery and Primary School, at the center of the controversy, is yet to respond formally to the allegations brought against them. The school’s silence leaves unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances that led to Isabella’s unexpected placement in Kasagga Primary School for her PLE examinations.
The case pinpoints to the importance of transparent communication between educational institutions and parents, emphasizing the need for parental consent in decisions concerning students’ academic journeys. It is a sobering reminder that schools must respect the parent’s trust to uphold the well-being and rights of their students.
