London.

Renowned pop star Elton John took the stand as a defense witness in Kevin Spacey’s sexual assault trial. Speaking remotely from Monaco, John provided his account of an annual gala he hosted, which became a focal point in the case.

One of the alleged victims accused Spacey of forcibly grabbing his crotch while they were driving to the ball hosted by John in either 2004 or 2005. However, John and his husband, David Furnish, testified that Spacey had attended the event only once, in 2001, based on photographic evidence.

The defense aimed to challenge the accuracy of the accuser’s claims by presenting the testimony of John and Furnish. They confirmed that Spacey’s presence at the ball in the specific year mentioned by the alleged victim was unlikely. The couple emphasized the significance of Spacey’s attendance, given his status as an acclaimed actor.

The trial revolves around 12 charges against Spacey, including sexual assault and indecent assault, related to alleged incidents between 2001 and 2003 involving four men. Spacey has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial continues to captivate audiences as Spacey fights to clear his name and restore his career, which has been severely impacted since the initial accusations in 2017.
