KAMPALA, Uganda | The Law Development Centre (LDC) Management Committee has announced the release of the final results for the Bar Course for the 2022/23 academic year and previous years. Frank Nigel Othembi, the Director and Chief Examiner of LDC, conveyed his congratulations to both students and staff for their dedication and hard work.
In a statement issued on 6th February 2024, Othembi commended the exceptional performance of students and extended special recognition to the Mbarara Campus, which emerged as the best performing campus in the Bar Course. Mbarara Campus secured the top spot with 36% of students passing the course outright, followed by Kampala Campus with 33% and Lira Campus with 30%.
Out of the 2,087 students who sat for the exams, 34% passed without the need for supplementary exams, while 43% will need to sit supplementary exams in subjects they did not pass. Unfortunately, 23% of students failed the course and will have the option to repeat it if they choose to do so.
Highlighting individual achievements, Aine Linda Agnes from Mbarara Campus emerged as the best student with a distinction first class, boasting an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.80. Agnes will be honored during the respective campus graduation ceremonies scheduled for April 12th in Mbarara, April 19th in Kampala, and April 26th in Lira.
Othembi further informed students about the procedure for supplementary examinations, verification, and appeal. Students with supplementary exams may apply and undertake them at their respective campuses, while those eligible for verification and appeal must follow the guidelines outlined in the Rules Governing the Bar Course 2020. Additionally, students who missed examinations or assessments for valid reasons can request to sit for special examinations or assessments by submitting a formal letter to the Academic Registrar at LDC Kampala Campus.
The Director also released the results for the Diploma in Law and Diploma in Human Rights courses for the 2022/23 academic year, conducted exclusively at the Kampala Campus.
Students eagerly awaiting their individual detailed results can access them on the AIMS students’ portal www.student.ldc.ac.ug starting from 2:00 pm on Wednesday, 7th February 2024.
The Law Development Centre remains the sole institution in Uganda offering the Bar Course leading to the post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. The Bar Course serves as the crucial vocational stage of training for aspiring advocates in Uganda, ensuring they are well-equipped for their future legal careers.
