KIRUHURA – A shocking incident has sent tremors through the community as the deputy LC5 chairperson of Kiruhura District, Adson Atuhaire, aged 30, is taken into Police custody following allegations of rape involving a 20-year-old student. The arrest has cast a shadow over the reputation of the prominent figure.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga addressed journalists on Monday, revealed that the distressing incident occurred in the heart of the Rwizi Region and has raised concerns about the conduct of a figure in a position of authority.
According to Enanga, it all began when the victim, provided directions to Golden Leaf Bar to Atuhaire and his cohorts who were traveling in a Toyota Premio bearing the registration number UAT 238Q. Atuhaire then extended an invitation to the victim for an evening out. He collected her from her hostel, situated in Kakoba Kyapatoni cell. Together, they embarked on what initially appeared to be a simple errand—buying groceries and snacks. However, this excursion would take a dark and sinister turn.
Enanga further revealed that during their journey back, the suspect deviated from the expected route, leading the unsuspecting victim into a horrifying ordeal. “It was along this unexpected path that the alleged rape took place, forever changing the course of the victim’s life. The victim, courageous and resolute, took swift action by reporting the incident to the authorities. Law enforcement promptly sprang into action, apprehending the suspect and impounding his motor vehicle as evidence in the case,” he said.
