KAMPALA, February 13, 2024 | The Law Development Centre (LDC) has taken decisive action by dismissing students implicated in examination malpractice. The Management and Board of LDC reached this decision on February 1st, 2024.
According to Stephen Lukwanzi, the Academic Registrar of LDC, students found guilty of examination malpractice have been expelled from the bar course and are ineligible for readmission to any course at the institution. Lukwanzi emphasized that these measures were taken in accordance with Rule 24 (9) and (10) of the Rules Governing Bar Course, 2020, following thorough deliberations by the Board of Examiners.
“The public and stakeholders are hereby informed about the decisions made by the Board of Examiners regarding alleged examination malpractice cases,” Lukwanzi stated in a formal announcement. He further explained that the Board considered recommendations put forth by the Examination Malpractice Committee in reaching their verdict.
Of the cases reviewed, three students were dismissed for offenses such as procuring or hiring services of another person, swapping examination answer booklets, and possessing prohibited materials during examinations. Conversely, four students were cleared of any wrongdoing, as their alleged infractions, such as submitting answer scripts in different handwriting or smuggling examination scripts, were not substantiated.
One student’s case remains pending as investigations by the Examination Malpractice Committee continue. The student is under scrutiny for allegedly swapping examination answer booklets with another student.
