KAMPALA, Uganda | President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced a reshuffle of Uganda’s cabinet, introducing new faces and reassigning roles in a bid to bolster the government’s efficiency and responsiveness to the citizens’ needs.
Among the significant changes, the President has replaced the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Mary Goretti Kitutu, with Peter Lokeris. Kitutu, who is currently facing charges related to the misappropriation of resources intended for the Karachuna warriors in Karamoja, will step down.
In a surprising development, Kampala businessman and events promoter Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi has been appointed the state minister for children and youth affairs. Barugahara’s inclusion in the cabinet is seen as a fresh approach to addressing the concerns and aspirations of Uganda’s younger population.
The reshuffle has also seen the retention of key figures in significant roles, with Jessica Alupo continuing her service as the Vice President and Robinah Nabbanja as the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
In addition to the cabinet changes, President Museveni has also appointed several Senior Presidential Advisors, including Asio Omaswa as the Principal Private Secretary and Irene Birungyi, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Public Service for deployment.
