KAMPALA, Uganda – In a dedicated effort to ensure swift justice and streamline court proceedings, the Head of the Criminal Division, Justice Michael Elubu, chaired the fourth Stakeholder Case Clearance Teams meeting at the Judiciary Headquarters today. The meeting, marked by cooperation and determination, provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the division, address challenges, and propose solutions.
During the gathering, Justice Elubu extended a warm welcome to Lady Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, who recently joined the Division and became a valued member of the Judiciary family. He also took a moment to express his heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering dedication and teamwork exhibited by the division’s members.
“I think it would not be possible to achieve what we have today if it were not because of the teamwork you have displayed,” Justice Elubu remarked, acknowledging the critical role played by every team member.
Justice Elubu then revealed an ambitious goal the Division has set for itself: to eliminate all active cases dating back to 2019 and earlier. He assured attendees that by the end of this year, no active backlog cases would be pending before any Judge in the Division. Currently, the judges have shifted their focus to cases from the year 2020, signifying a determined effort to catch up with the backlog.
The meeting witnessed the presence of distinguished attendees, including Justice Isaac Muwata, Deputy Registrar Festo Nsenga, and Acting Deputy Registrar Didas Muhumuza. Additionally, members of the various Case Clearance teams, each led by a Judge, were in attendance. These teams comprise state attorneys, defense counsel, prison officers, process servers, police officers, clerks, and assessors, all working together harmoniously to facilitate the clearance of pending cases.
This collaborative approach to addressing backlog cases within the Criminal Division is a testament to the judiciary’s commitment to delivering justice swiftly and efficiently. As stakeholders come together, they aim not only to resolve existing challenges but also to ensure that the wheels of justice continue to turn smoothly.
The efforts led by Justice Michael Elubu and his team in the Criminal Division are a beacon of hope for those seeking justice, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and dedication in the pursuit of a fair and efficient legal system.
