KAMPALA, November 27, 2023 | Supreme Court Judge Elizabeth Musoke has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the body responsible for the recruitment and regulation of judicial officers in the country.
Justice Musoke underwent a thorough vetting process by the Parliament Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker Anita Among, on Monday, November 27, 2023, subsequent to her nomination by President Yoweri Museveni. While Speaker Among did not disclose specific details of the vetting outcome, reliable sources close to the committee conveyed that Justice Musoke left a favorable impression with her wealth of experience and unwavering integrity.
Justice Musoke has been an integral part of Uganda’s judiciary, serving as a Supreme Court judge since 2019, following her elevation from the Court of Appeal. Her legal journey encompasses roles as a High Court judge and a magistrate. She is a distinguished alumna of Makerere University, holding a Bachelor of Laws degree, and the University of London, where she earned a Master of Laws degree. A proud member of both the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society, Justice Musoke brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to her new role.
The Judicial Service Commission, established under Article 146 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the judiciary. Comprising nine members, including the chairperson, deputy chairperson, the Attorney General, and six others appointed by the President with Parliament’s approval, the JSC holds the responsibility of recruiting judicial officers and regulating their conduct.
