In a shocking and heart-wrenching case that has captured public attention, an Israeli man has been remanded after confessing to the murder of his 25-year-old wife, Monica Nabukenya, in Mpigi District.

The accused, 58-year-old Raed Wated, allegedly committed the heinous act and concealed Nabukenya’s remains in a septic tank at their residence in Kalagala Village, Mpigi District. The motive behind the dreadful crime came to light as Wated reportedly suspected his wife of infidelity, leading him to subject their 6-month-old baby to a DNA test, tragically confirming his suspicions.

Initially, Wated had reported his wife missing in an apparent attempt to mislead the police. However, he made a shocking confession at Mpigi Chief Magistrates Court on July 20, 2023, admitting to the gruesome murder.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution, led by Joy Apio, requested an adjournment, citing ongoing investigations. The accused is now facing murder charges for this appalling act.

Due to the gravity of the offenses, the presiding magistrate, Ezra Solomon Okem, informed Wated that his court lacked jurisdiction, leading to his remand at Kigo Prison until August 15, 2023.

In a surprising turn of events, Wated’s defense lawyer, Isaac Ayebazibwe, has asserted his belief in his client’s innocence despite the confession. He hinted that further details might emerge during the upcoming court hearings, adding complexity to the case.

The family of the deceased is devastated by the tragic loss and is seeking justice for Nabukenya. Loyce Nalubega, the sister of the deceased, expressed their plea for justice, emphasizing that no amount of compensation could replace the life that was taken so ruthlessly.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving many in disbelief and grief. Authorities are working diligently to ensure a thorough investigation and a fair trial for the victim and her family.

Monica Nabukenya’s tragic death serves as a grim reminder of the importance of addressing domestic issues and seeking non-violent solutions to marital problems. As the trial continues, the public remains anxiously attentive to the unfolding developments in this heartbreaking case.
