KAMPALA, March 19, 2024 | The High Court in Kampala has scheduled April 3rd, 2024, as the date for the bail hearing of Molly Katanga, who stands accused of murdering her husband and city businessman, Henry Katanga.
High Court Judge Isaac Muwata convened a closed-door meeting with the prosecution teams and defense lawyers this afternoon, during which the date for the bail hearing was decided.
In her bail application, Molly Katanga asserts her entitlement to the constitutional presumption of innocence. She also pledges substantial sureties to guarantee her appearance in court whenever required if granted bail.
“It is in the interest of justice that I am released on bail to enable me to get the medical care I require, spend time with my grieving family, earn a living, have adequate time to prepare my defense, and exercise my right to liberty and a fair hearing,” Molly stated in her affidavit.
Judge Isaac Muwata instructed Molly’s lawyers to furnish the prosecution team with the necessary documents so that they can provide a reply before the matter is brought for hearing next month.
This development comes after other suspects in Henry Katanga’s murder case, including Molly’s daughters Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi, George Amanyire (a worker at Katanga’s home), and Charles Otai (a medical officer present at Katanga’s home during the time of his death), were granted bail on February 21st, 2024.
Henry Katanga was killed on November 2nd, 2023, at Mbuya Chwa 11 road in Nakawa Division, Kampala. Molly Katanga has been in remand at Luzira Prison on charges of murder by shooting her husband dead using a pistol.
The same court will commence hearing evidence against Molly Katanga and her daughters in the murder case of City Businessman Henry Katanga on July 2nd, 2024.
