FREEDOM CITY NEW YEAR STAMPEDE CASE ADJOURNED

The case in which renowned events promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex & Elvis Francis Jjuko are being accused of negligently causing the new year deadly stampede which left several people dead at Freedom City has been further adjourned to 4th May 2023.

During today’s hearing at the Makindye-based Magistrates court, the State was represented by Harriet Adong, while Counsel Musa Matovu held brief for Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who was absent and him. The trial could not take off since the trial Magistrate His Worship Igga Adiru, was indisposed.

Abitex and his co-accused are facing 13 counts of rash or negligent acts causing the death of 11 people and bodily harm to two others. The charges stem from the tragic New Year’s Eve stampede at Freedom City Mall, which shook the nation and led to widespread calls for accountability and justice.

While the legal proceedings have been delayed, witnesses present during the stampede are expected to return to court on the adjourned date to testify. The case has captured the attention of the nation, as many are eager to see justice served for the victims and their families.
