Kampala, Uganda – In a case that continues to draw public attention, the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) has begun the process of conducting DNA testing to resolve a unique dispute concerning the detention of a three-month-old baby at Roswell Women and Children’s Hospital over unpaid medical bills.    .

Today, the court heard that DNA samples were collected last Friday, with both parties involved in the dispute present during the procedure in accordance with the court’s order. The Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) informed the parties that the results will be available after a 14-working-day period.

During the court proceedings, the presiding judge Hon. Justice Esther Nambayo, reiterated that the primary objective of the hearing was to obtain a report from GAL. Therefore, she did not entertain any other applications, directing all parties instead to file their responses by the time the case reconvenes to receive the test results.

The court’s decision to order DNA testing for the three-month-old baby stemmed from the parents failure to identify the infant when he was presented in court.

The child’s parents, Bridgers Alinda Mugyenyi and Saloome Aturinde, filed a lawsuit against Roswell Women and Children’s Hospital, seeking justice for their detained child. Their plea for court intervention comes after their baby was reportedly held captive for four months due to a disputed bill amounting to sh4.36 million.

It is alleged that initially, the hospital presented the couple with a bill totaling sh9.56 million after recommending a cesarean birth for Aturinde, resulting in the baby’s extended stay in the hospital’s nursery. Mugyenyi, the father, maintains that he paid sh5.9 million, denouncing the hospital’s detention of his wife and child as illegal.

As the court awaits the DNA test results, the baby remains in the care of Loving Hearts Babies home. The upcoming DNA test results are eagerly awaited, as they have the potential to provide crucial insights into this complex case and bring clarity to the situation surrounding baby Khyrst Alinda.
