Detective Superintendent of Police Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana, a key figure in a distressing case of aggravated trafficking in Uganda, has been granted bail by Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi.
The bail decision required Detective Arinaitwe Bwana to post a cash bail of Shs2 million. Additionally, his sureties were bonded for Shs 10 million non-cash. This development follows the serious allegations leveled against him in connection with aggravated trafficking.
According to available information, the case centers around the alleged victim’s ordeal that purportedly began at a residence in Kampala belonging to Detective Gilbert Arinaitwe. The victim has recounted a traumatic incident of alleged rape at gunpoint, which reportedly marked the beginning of a series of recurring assaults. The victim claims to have been coerced into silence, enduring a cycle of abuse in which fear played a significant role.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi of Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court granted Detective Arinaitwe Bwana bail. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, and forced labor. The prosecution asserts that the victim was subjected to threats, coercion, abuse of power, and physical force.
Arinaitwe, for his part, maintains his innocence, firmly denying the charges. His legal representation during the bail application was provided by James Njogu. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and additional charges could be forthcoming pending the results of DNA testing.
