Fort Portal, Uganda – A Criminal Appeals Session has been flagged off at the Fort Portal High Court by Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera. The session is anticipated to span five days, focusing on the resolution of approximately 30 appeals. The court’s primary objective is to meticulously evaluate the merits of each appeal.

The panel of judges presiding over the appeals consists of Justice Fredrick Stephen Martin Egonda-Ntende, Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, and Lady Justice Monica Mugenyi.

According to Judiciary, the rationale behind holding court of appeal sessions outside the central hub of Kampala is to bring judicial services closer to the populace. This move seeks to address logistical barriers and ensure that cases can be heard within the areas where they originate.

By decentralizing these sessions, the judiciary also seeks to take strides towards addressing case backlogs and enhancing accessibility to legal processes for citizens.
