The High Court in Kampala, Uganda has sentenced a one Twesigye Simon to forty-five (45) years in prison after finding him guilty of performing sexual acts on young boys aged between 8 to 13 years. Twesigye was facing charges of aggravated defilement contrary to section 129 (3) and (4) (a) of the Penal Code Act.
Evidence presented in court by the prosecution revealed that between 2016 and 2019, Twesigye lured young boys in Kamokya Church Zone where he lived and inserted his private parts into the boys’ anal regions or between their thighs for sexual gratification. It was also revealed that he would involve the young boys in watching pornographic videos before engaging them in sexual acts. Witnesses also informed the court that Twesigye threatened the boys and their relatives to never report the incidents to police or else he would harm them.
While Twesigye denied all the charges attributing his woes to grudges between him and the boys’ relatives, the Judge rejected his defence arguing that the boys who testified in court knew him very well and identified him without any sign that they were part of a ploy to frame him. The Judge also observed that Twesigye had not confronted the boys’ relatives with the accusations when they appeared in court to testify meaning that his defence was an afterthought intended to aid him evade justice.
While reading out his judgment, Honorable Justice Micheal Elubu stated that Twesigye had committed the offence of aggravated defilement when he placed his penis on that of the victim and that on another occasion his penis came into contact with the anus of the victim contrary to section 129 of the Penal Code Act which is meant to address the vice of using underage children for the sexual gratification of adults.
