KAMPALA, January 08, 2024 | The Magistrates Court at Nakawa has issued an arrest warrant for Martha Nkwanzi, the daughter of the late city businessman, Henry Katanga. Martha Nkwanzi is among the suspects implicated in the murder of her father, who tragically lost his life on November 2, 2023, succumbing to gunshot wounds sustained during an altercation with his wife at their residence in Mbuya Nakawa Division, Kampala district.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza issued the warrant and extended criminal summons against Molly Katanga, the grieving widow, currently recovering from medical operations. Defense lawyers, MacDusman Kabega, Jet Tumwebaze, and Bruce Musinguzi, informed the court that Molly Katanga’s absence was due to her health condition, having recently undergone surgery.
It has also been reported that the High Court has been petitioned to review decisions taken by the Magistrate while handling the case file. “The High Court has been called upon to review the case file following concerns raised by the Director of Public Prosecutions about the handling of this capital offense by the Chief Magistrate. The gravity of such cases, according to the DPP, necessitates the jurisdiction of the High Court,” reported sources close to the matter.
Henry Katanga’s tragic demise unfolded amidst a close-range shooting, leaving investigators with no recovered bullets or fragments from the victim’s body, which was delivered to the city mortuary on November 2, carefully wrapped in a mattress cover.
The suspects currently remanded in connection with the case include Patricia Kakwanzi, who is also the late businessman’s daughter, Charles Otai, and George Amanyire, the houseworker present at the time of Katanga’s untimely death.
