Kampala, Uganda – John Mugerwa, a co-accused in the high-profile case involving MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, has made a significant move by submitting a bail application as he faces charges of terrorism and murder. The International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala is now poised to address this application.
The case centers around grave allegations of murder, terrorism, and attempted murder stemming from unsettling incidents that shook the Masaka region. The charge sheet alleges that the accused, including Mugerwa, were involved in acts intended to instill fear among the public for political, religious, or economic motives. These alleged acts led to indiscriminate violence, resulting in loss of life and attempted murder.
The gravity of the situation deepens further with the confession of a co-accused, Sserwadda, who reportedly admitted to participating in the tragic events. This admission directly implicates fellow accused individuals, including Mugerwa and the MPs, in a shared mission to reclaim their perceived political “victory.” Coordinated meetings, allegedly involving Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana, take center stage in the evolving narrative.
John Mugerwa, has now applied for bail arguing that he is the sole provider for his family and that it is his fundamental right to seek bail. The application will be presided over by Honourable Justice Alice Komuhangi of the International Crimes Division.
As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, the collective attention remains fixed on the intricate details of this case, which could have far-reaching implications for those involved and for the broader legal landscape.
