The nominations, held in accordance with the Uganda Law Society (Elections) Regulations of 2016, have paved the way for the incumbent President, Mr. Bernard Oundo, to embark on a second term unopposed.

The nominated Council Members, who will join Mr. Oundo in leading the ULS, include Mr. Martin Asingwire Baryaruha for Vice President, Mr. Atukunda Isaac for Honorary Secretary, Mr. Kyagaba Isaac Newton for Treasurer, Ms. Fatuma Omar for Council Member – Central Region, Mr. Musasire Allan for Council Member – Western Region, Mr. Obedo Deogracious for Council Member – Eastern Region, and Mr. Egaru Emmanuel Omiat for Council Member-Northern Region.

The ULS, often referred to as the Bar Association for lawyers in Uganda, serves a vital role in the legal community. Its mandate extends to facilitating the acquisition of legal knowledge by legal professionals and the general public. Additionally, the ULS is tasked with representing, protecting, and assisting members of the legal profession in Uganda, ensuring favorable conditions of practice and offering support where needed. Importantly, the society also champions the interests of the public, aiding in all matters related to the law. Moreover, the ULS plays a pivotal role in assisting the government and the courts in matters concerning legislation and the administration and practice of law in Uganda.

With the absence of competing candidates in this year’s elections, the nominated individuals will be officially declared as duly elected members of the ULS Council. This declaration will take place during the Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 30, 2023, at the Imperial Resort Beach in Entebbe.

The seamless nomination process not only demonstrates the harmony and unity within the Uganda Law Society but also reaffirms the commitment of its members to the pursuit of justice, legal excellence, and the betterment of the legal profession in Uganda.
