KAMPALA, Uganda | Mr. Bernard Oundo, the President of the t, has encouraged budding legal practitioners at the Law Development centre to specialize in new areas if they are to survive and remain relevant in dynamic legal practice. The message was contained in his address to aspiring lawyers during an orientation session at the Law Development Centre – Kampala Campus.
In his speech, he tackled the challenge of the growing number of lawyers in the legal profession, highlighting the potential it holds. President Oundo urged these future legal minds to carve out their unique path to success by specializing in new and emerging areas of the law.
As the legal landscape becomes increasingly competitive, President Oundo stressed the importance of developing strategies to stand out. He urged students to consider specialization as a means to distinguish themselves early in their legal careers.
“Success in the legal field requires staying ahead of the curve,” President Oundo emphasized. He encouraged these budding lawyers to embrace new and emerging areas of the law, emphasizing the need for continuous learning and up skilling.
President Oundo also emphasized the values of hard work and dedication. He encouraged students to put in extra hours and never limit themselves, highlighting that true excellence often requires going above and beyond.
Furthermore, ethical conduct was a central theme in his address. The President underscored the importance of patience and ethical behavior as the cornerstones of a successful legal career. He reminded students that upholding the highest standards of integrity is non-negotiable.
“Clerkship is your bridge to real-world legal practice,” President Oundo explained. He encouraged the students to give their best during this phase, as it opens doors to incredible opportunities.
In this digital age, President Oundo also warned students about their online presence. He cautioned them to be mindful of their social media platforms, as their digital footprint can influence their professional reputation. “What you post online matters,” he advised.
To enrich their legal journey, President Oundo encouraged the students to consider enrolling with professional associations, such as the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society. These organizations provide valuable resources and networking opportunities that can facilitate their growth as legal professionals.
