A legal dispute has emerged within the entertainment industry, as events promoter Abbey Musinguzi, widely known as Abtex, enters into a conflict with acclaimed singer Alien Skin, also recognized as Patrick Mulwana. The contentious issue revolves around the cancellation of the highly anticipated Nkwacho Festival, leading Abtex to demand compensation of sh77 million for the incurred damages.

On August 14, Abtex’s legal representatives, Lunar Advocates, delivered a letter outlining the terms that had been previously agreed upon by the involved parties. It was established that Alien Skin was to receive sh100 million, with an initial sh10 million deposit. The remaining sh90 million was to be paid before the scheduled performance.

The letter reveals that Alien Skin had received the funds via Mobile Money, facilitated by Musa Mawejje, an intermediary manager. However, just days before the Nkwacho Festival was set to take place, the event was abruptly canceled. Abtex alleges that the cancellation, conducted without prior notice, resulted in financial losses, mental distress, and a tarnished reputation as an experienced events promoter.

The financial losses experienced by Abtex encompass costs related to the reserved venue, banners, public address systems, and other essential components of the event. The compensation demanded totals sh71.5 million. Additionally, the letter specifies sh6 million in legal fees incurred by Abtex during the pursuit of legal resolution.

Earlier on June 9, 2023, Abtex successfully organized a concert for Alien Skin at the prestigious Freedom City, located along Entebbe Road. This achievement came shortly after a well-publicized altercation between Alien Skin and singer Pallaso (Pius Mayanja), which garnered significant attention and propelled the Sitya Danger artist into the spotlight.

Responding to the cancellation of the Nkwacho Festival, Alien Skin has announced intentions to host the event at One Love Beach, owned by singer and politician Robert Kyagulanyi. However, One Love Beach has categorically denied any involvement or agreement related to the proposed concert.

As the legal conflict between Abtex and Alien Skin unfolds, the entertainment industry finds itself entangled in a complex situation, highlighting the significance of having clear contractual agreements for events organizers and effective communication among parties involved in such businesses.
