KAMPALA, Uganda | The territorial police in Kampala Metropolitan East and Kira Division, alongside their counterparts in Greater Masaka and Sembabule district, are currently conducting intensive investigations into two separate murder cases, both involving vulnerable women.
In the first incident, which occurred on February 10th, 2024, at around 7 pm, a female partner was allegedly murdered at Silent Kireka Guest House in Kireka B zone, Kira Municipality. The suspect, who identified himself as Mike Bilnego, had booked a room for a short service at a fee of Ugx 5000 and was assigned room 2. The lodge attendant discovered the gruesome scene at around 11 pm when she found the room open and switched on the lights to find the victim, a brown woman, lying dead facing down across the bed, with blood oozing from her nose. The suspect was nowhere to be found, and the victim’s handbag was empty. The matter was reported to the police, documented, and the victim’s body was taken to the City Mortuary for post mortem examination.
In a separate incident, territorial police in Greater Masaka and Sembabule district are investigating the murder by strangulation of a sex worker identified as Nabasirye Mastullah. Mastullah had recently rented a room at Nalubega Betty’s rooms in downtown Sembabule town council, having relocated from Central ward, Lukaya town council in Kalungu district. Her naked body was discovered on her bed, indicating signs of strangulation. Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrator behind this heinous crime.
These tragic incidents shed light on the vulnerability of sex workers and other marginalized women who may be targeted for rape, physical and sexual abuse, and robbery. Police authorities have urged vulnerable individuals to exercise caution when dealing with strangers and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
