KAMPALA, February 15, 2024 | Renowned singer and celebrity Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, has taken a stand against Airtel Company, threatening legal action over what he alleges to be an unjust depletion of his monthly data bundles.
Ssali purchased data bundles worth fifty thousand shillings on January 16th, 2024, around 21:56 hours. However, he claims that within a mere two minutes, approximately 17GB of data was depleted, leaving him astonished and frustrated.
In a statement issued on February 14th, 2024, the Gagamel Boss expressed his intention to involve the courts of law in the matter, citing what he believes to be Airtel’s unfair data usage policy. According to Ssali, the depletion of data was unjustified, considering his minimal usage during the period in question.
Ssali recounted his experience, stating that he used his TikTok application for approximately five minutes around 22:00 hours and then put his phone on charge in preparation for a business meeting via Zoom. To his dismay, he received an alert around 00:30 hours indicating a drastic reduction in his data balance, despite not actively using his phone during that time.
Demanding transparency from Airtel, Ssali has requested an inventory and usage chart of the mobile data bundle between January 16th, 2024, at 21:56 hours, and January 17th, 2024, at 1:00 am. Additionally, he seeks compensation for the inconvenience caused, demanding a refund of the unused data bundles amounting to One hundred thousand Uganda shillings within 21 days.
The move by Bebe Cool highlights the growing concerns among consumers regarding data usage policies and accountability within the telecommunications industry. Bebe Cool’s determination to seek justice resonates with many consumers who have faced similar frustrations, signaling a call for greater accountability and customer-centric policies within the telecommunications sector.
