KAMPALA, January 22, 2024 | Nakawa Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza has committed four suspects to the High Court for trial in connection with the murder of City Businessman Henry Katanga. The decision follows the completion of investigations, as confirmed by the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions during court proceedings.
The suspects, Nkwanzi and Kankwanza, both daughters of the deceased City Money lender, are charged with destroying evidence related to the murder of their father. Additionally, Amanyire, a domestic worker, and Otai, a doctor present at the time of Katanga’s death, face charges as accessories to the alleged murder. The four suspects are also implicated alongside Molly Katanga, the widow of the deceased.
Court prosecutors allege that on November 2, 2023, Molly Katanga caused the death of her husband at Mbuya Chwa 11 Road, Nakawa Division in Kampala. In a parallel development, the court has issued a warrant of arrest for Molly Katanga, who has not appeared in court despite several summons. The warrant, dated January 22, 2024, directs authorities to arrest Molly Katanga and bring her before the court as soon as possible.
The absence of Molly Katanga from court is attributed to her ongoing treatment for illness at the International Hospital in Kampala. The court summons, including the arrest warrant, acknowledge her health condition while emphasizing the need for her appearance in the ongoing legal proceedings.
