Kampala, Uganda – The Law Development Centre (LDC) has officially released the list of candidates who have been admitted to the Bar Course for the academic year 2023/2024. A total of 1,649 students have been granted admission to the prestigious program following a meticulous selection process carried out by the Admissions Board on August 23rd.
This year’s successful candidates represent a diverse pool of talent, hailing from 13 universities within Uganda, with an additional 12 students from reputable international universities. Leading the road to LDC is Uganda Christian University, contributing the highest number of admitted students, totaling 400. Following closely is the Islamic University in Uganda, with 345 students. Makerere University secures the third position, enrolling 250 students.
The distribution of successful applicants spans across LDC’s three campuses located in Kampala, Mbarara, and Lira. Notably, LDC’s Kampala campus has received the largest share of students, welcoming 924 individuals. Within this group, 794 are newly admitted students, while 86 are returning candidates who deferred their enrollment from the previous year. An additional 44 students are undertaking a repeat of the Bar Course to further enhance their legal acumen.
Mbarara campus has welcomed 491 students, with 15 among them choosing to retake the course. Lira campus, the third of the institution’s locations, has enrolled 234 students, including 19 repeaters. Beyond these figures, LDC has also accommodated 280 students who are retaking failed subjects and terms, with Kampala campus admitting 250, Lira 3, and Mbarara 27.
The LDC Bar Course is set to commence on October 3rd, marked by an orientation program at the respective campuses. LDC has communicated the need for successful applicants to retrieve their letters of provisional admission effective immediately. Additionally, admitted students are expected to adhere to the stipulations outlined in their admission letters, failure to comply may result in forfeiture of the offer.
Mr. Frank Obonyo, LDC’s public relations officer, extended his congratulations to the successful applicants and underscored the importance of dedicating the upcoming nine months to the Bar Course. The program demands unwavering commitment, and those with existing employment are advised to consider resigning to fully engage in the rigorous training that LDC provides.
LDC stands as the sole institution in the country offering the coveted Diploma in Legal Practice, a prerequisite for those aspiring to become advocates of the High Court. This year’s cohort of LDC admitted students embarks on a journey that promises to cultivate a new generation of legal professionals equipped to make meaningful contributions to the legal landscape.
