Amos Lugoloobi, the Minister of State for Finance and Planning and Member of Parliament for Ntenjuru North County, has been apprehended by Police on allegations of misappropriating iron sheets designated for the Karamoja relief initiative.
He is alleged to have utilized a portion of the 600 iron sheets he obtained to construct a roof for an animal shelter at his farm in Kayunga. Lugoloobi’s detention comes in the wake of President Museveni’s mandate for relevant agencies to prosecute individuals found culpable of exploiting iron sheets for personal benefit.
Lugoloobi is the second Minister in President Museveni’s administration to be detained in connection with the Karamoja iron sheets scandal and is reportedly held at Kira Road police. Mary Goretti Kitutu, the Karamoja Affairs Minister, has already been indicted on charges of conspiracy to defraud and causing the loss of public assets is currently out of jail on bail.
