Five police officers attached to Bukedea District were charged with aggravated robbery in the Magistrates Court of Bukedea on 5th July 2023. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHA-CU) collaborated with Regional Police, Kyoga East, in apprehending these officers. The accused individuals are namely D/ASP Ehguloiti Alex, PC Akankwasa Onesmus, D/C Oriokot Simon Peter, PC Kamakoin Difas, and PC Born Naibei.

According to the charge sheet, on the night of June 4, 2023, the accused officers armed with SMG guns forcibly entered the residence of Agume Alfred, who served as a campaign agent for candidate Omagor Steven. Their alleged motive was to steal Omagor’s electoral documents and other valuables, potentially hindering his nomination in the recently concluded LCV by-elections in Bukedea district.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that D/ASP Ehguloiti possessed additional police files related to similar acts committed during the 2021 elections. These files implicated the officer in cases of murder and aggravated torture of two suspects who were in police custody at the time. Regrettably, these suspects later succumbed to their injuries.

The accused have been remanded until July 27, 2023.
